The Time is Ripe for Fruit Desserts!
Grilling season really heats up in June so don't forget that in addition to meats & veggies you can throw fruit on the grill. Grilling adds flavor and brings out the natural sweetness of fresh fruit, transforming it into a deliciously decadent natural dessert.
What to grill: plums, nectarines, peaches, apples, pears, grapefruit, bananas, pineapple and mango.
How to grill: Cut fruit in half, remove any pits or seeds, brush the entire fruit lightly with grapeseed oil (which can withstand the high grilling heat) and grill flesh-side down about 3 minutes. Flip and continue to grill until fruit is tender, usually about 3-5 more minutes.
Serving suggestions: Serve grilled fruit just as is or top it with plain, low-fat yogurt sweetened with a little honey or maple syrup, chopped nuts or even a drizzle of balsamic vinegar (the sour compliments the sweetness in the fruit).
